Tour De Steamboat
The Tour de Steamboat isn’t just a cycling rally—it’s an all-day adventure through some of the most stunning landscapes in Routt County, Colorado. I was hired to capture the action, which meant an early 5 AM start as riders gathered in downtown Steamboat, gearing up for a long day on the road.
With cyclists coming in from all over Colorado and beyond, my goal was to photograph as many participants as possible. Since I was already familiar with the area, I had a good sense of the best viewpoints, which made planning a little easier. The real challenge? Keeping up. As a solo photographer, I had to move fast—jumping between locations, staying ahead of the riders, and making sure I didn’t miss key moments.
After nearly 12 hours of shooting, I ended up with hundreds of photos—many of which were used to promote the event for years to come. It was an exhausting but incredibly rewarding experience, and one of those projects that reminds me why I love event photography.
